About US

What We DO

We promote the UN’s critical role in striving to maintain international peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development. In particular we focus on promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the issues affecting Australians, such as climate change, the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, gender equality, and refugees.

Our purpose is to inform, inspire, and engage Australians to create a safer, fairer, more sustainable world.

Our Strategic Focus: Four Core Pillars

Sustainable Development

Support progress on the SDG Decade of Action. Drive net zero by 2050 climate action.

Peace & Security

Raise awareness of the UN’s role in international Peace and Security. Promote the contributors to a safe and peaceful Australian community.

HUMAN RIGHTS

Advance respect for human rights, diversity and inclusivity in the Australian community.

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

Support organisations and individuals to think globally and act locally to achieve the United Nations goals and the SDGs.

How We do this

We do this through:

  • Innovative programs, projects, and events
  • Awareness raising through education
  • Professional knowledge sharing, networking, and training, including through our UNAA NSW UN Diploma
  • Partnering with organisations to promote and improve the UN and its goals

Events

UNAA NSW hosts various events throughout the year. Designed to inform, inspire and engage, some of our past events include United Nations Day, our online Movement Monday program, the Creating our Future Exhibition, NAIDOC Week Event, and more.

Who We Are

We are the New South Wales division of the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA), non-profit, non-government, membership-based, community organisation working to promote the aims and ideals of the United Nations and seek support for the UN and its programs and agencies. One of more than 100 member organisations of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), and one of seven United Nations Associations in Australia.

We play a critical role in connecting Australians with the United Nations and educating the community on key international and local environmental, human rights, and social justice issues.

UNAA NSW is made up of a wide range of people all from diverse backgrounds and outlooks. The one view that we all share is that we have a chance to make our society and environment a better place to live in, a place that we can unreservedly pass along to our children, knowing that we have done our best and what is right. This is a wonderful chance for you to see what the UNAA is doing at the grassroots level in NSW. I wholeheartedly invite you to explore the site and should you feel interested, to contact us and come to see the UNAA in action.
